Keep labels when archived

We need a way to keep labels when we archive a mail.
Actualy, if we navigaite under a label, and open a mail that has only this label (not even in Inbox any more), and we click the "archive" button, it will simply remove the label. It should not be so ! We do need to be able to still find the archived mail by label.
There are multiple ways to achieve it. For example by moveing archived email to an "Archive" folder and keeping labels in that folder. Or you can also add an "archived" flag, with posibility to filter by this flag. And for sure there are many other ways to achieve it.
In fact, we don't realy care about the way to do it, but we do need a way to do it.

when we archive we want the labels left on

Jaques Mayor to be sure I understand this correctly since it's getting more than ten votes, I believe different people can interpret this request differently.
Do you want:
1- When pressing the archive button, while being selected in a label, you don't want the label to be removed. Instead, you would like the conversation to be archived from your inbox.
OR
2- When pressing the archive button in Missive, while being selected in a label, you want the conversation to stay linked to the label in a label-archived view

Have you looked at this feature request? I believe this would be a more flexible solution to your problem.
In this case you would create a two step flows.
Label > Label-archived

Philippe Lehoux: The second proposal would be ok, but it should still be archieved in Exchange server (as it is right now, if I have well undersood). And we need it to be made in one only step.

Philippe Lehoux: Not sure that the feature request you nmentioned makes the trick. We need that to be made automaticaly by just clicking on one button.
And, in a second time, we also need that to be well understood by the Exchange server.

Jaques Mayor: So as I understand you want to have emails filed in a label and use this label as a sort of “secondary inbox”.
Do you happen to use rules to automatically file these emails into labels upon reception? If so, a simple solution would be to tweak your rule(s) to apply 2 labels upon reception. For instance, you would apply these labels:
- Job candidates
- Archive / Job candidates
On a daily basis you would manage emails in
Job candidates
, you would archive by removing this label (with the box icon), and refer to the emails later in Archive / Job candidates
which would always remain applied. On the Exchange side, labels are effectively folders; just two names for the exact same thing. So you would start with two copies of the email in both folders, and end up with a single copy in the “Archive / …” one.
Does that make sense?

Rafael Masson: That would be an 'ok' workaround... But a little bit messy. Because, it would mean to have 2 times more labels in inbox. And have duplicate mails until they are archived (not realy a green way to do it).
You said that "on the Exchange side, labels are effectively folders"... So why not create subfolder inside the archive folder, and then when someone click on the "archive" button from label "abc", simply move the email to "archive/abc" ?
That would be a simple way to do it, I think.
(And a plus would be that if there are multiple labels, asking if we want to archive for each label or only for the current.)
Rafael Masson
Jaques Mayor: > when someone clicks on the "archive" button from label "abc", simply move the email to "archive/abc"
You can indeed automate this in Missive, by creating a “Label changed” rule, that will add the “Archive / ABC” label when a user removes the “ABC” label.

Rafael Masson: Is that possible in personal inbox ? Because I only see "New comment" under "User action" in "Rules".
Maybe am I missing something ?
And if it is possible with personal inbox, can I have one rule that would work for every case or will I need to do as many rules as labels ?
Rafael Masson
Jaques Mayor: Indeed this isn’t possible in personal rules yet. It would also require multiple rules.

Rafael Masson: So I still need a "real solution" which has to be user-friendly. Because there ain't actualy no satisfying way to do it.
Philippe Lehoux
Jaques Mayor: Have you found this behavior in any other email client? I'm still not sure I understand.
J

Philippe Lehoux: In front, for example, when you archive a mail, it does not affect the labels.
A solution could be to have an "archive rule" that would be used each time we archive something and that would be able to use variables like %old_label%. In this case we would be able to dynamicaly define the new location with the string "archive\%old_label%". Then, if I archive from my "abc" label, the mail will be moved to "archive\abc", and if I archive from my "xyz" label, the mail would be moved to "archive\xyz", with the same only one rule.
That's just an idea of how to achieve it.

Ohh yes please !!
We also need this option "Keep labels when archived"
