Search within selected conversation
Paul Brace
Hi , This is greatly needed. We have a chat channels which are very long and need it to scroll to searched word. Similar to searchable PDF's. I cannot get the CTRL + F to work on chat ?

Hi Philippe Lehoux . Curious if you guys are considering additional search functionality. Like others here I have been using missive for a long time and some of my one-on-one conversations with long-term employees are years long. Searching for something within one for these chats is basically impossible at the moment. If I search for a keyword / phrase etc, it will take me to a conversation but it doesn't take me to the point in time that I had conversation (about the keyword). We have started to move 'threaded' /topical conversations to their own conversations, however obviously that doesn't always happen.

Search text in thread
Alex Buge
Hi, It could be a great to allow search a text in a specific thread and allow navigation from all occurrences of this text in this thread's different emails, collapsed or not.
Thanks in advance for that

You can at least use the "Find in view" option:

Philippe Lehoux: yep, this is a good workaround. I just have to remind myself that it's there, and when I press Ctrl+F, I should not be looking in the top right corner. :)

Philippe LehouxI'm not seeing this on my end.

Philippe LehouxDoes this only work on the desktop app? I don't see this option in browser

We're starting to use Missive as a project management tool with labels. Now more than ever do I wish conversations were searchable. They can get LONG!
Sam Boyd
Ryan Anstey: can you elaborate on how/why you're doing this? I can't imagine how an email client could act as a project manager, so I'm really curious about your use case.
Ryan Anstey
Sam Boyd: I guess it's not really the project manager itself, but it contains the chat threads for the tasks/tickets themselves.
Sam Boyd
Ryan Anstey: got it. That sounds similar to what we do then. We try to keep one long thread for all projects with the client. So these can be long, but we can integrate both system generated messages via API, as well as our staff communicating with the client all within a single thread.
It is interesting to hear that you're using tasks. It feels quite gimmicky to me as I found it hard to come up with a way to ensure accountability amongst users.
Ryan Anstey
Sam Boyd: I would say it started as tasks, but it's really just a label that contains all of the conversation element of the tickets or tasks we receive. All the work is done externally, but if we need someone's input, having it in Missive is a game changer.

I've been running into this myself, and now that it's not there like it was in Gmail I can see how many use cases are there for introducing the "search for words within this email thread" function:
- When on calls, customers refer to emails that they've received or sent, and you need to quickly pull up
- Long threads where you want to find one quote from one person where you only have a word to go on
- Customer/tech support emails where you again sometimes need to find one line of advice/issue in a 25-message thread
- Trying to find specific information in singular emails that are long and the information is structured poorly.
When I have to perform any of these tasks, I currently either have to:
* copy and paste a long email into a text document to be able to search within the text
* load up Gmail and start the search for the email thread and then find the contents again
At best, it's an annoyance and adds a lot of time. At worst, when it's a time-critical situation (the customer is waiting on the line or has a demand that has to be checked immediately), it's stress-inducing.

search function for keywords in conversations

It would be great to have the possibility to search for keywords in a single conversation

This is sorely needed, especially as we continue using Missive over time. In this context, searching messages posted via API (not just emails and chats posted using the Missive client) is also crucial.
