Understand location tracking challenging and images blocked in some email systems, but still have a good history with other services with at least tracking emails opens and would like option to have desktop and app notifications of opens. Feature should also include a visual in Sent box if opened with a small number of how many times.

Randolph Taylor: We removed the read tracking feature from Missive some time ago. You can read about the removal on our blog.

Rafael Masson: got it. Understand issues but still think should be an Option for users to turn on or off. Any chance?
Rafael Masson
Randolph Taylor: Not in our plans, sorry.

Please, please! Just found Missive this is all what I am missing. :)

YES PLEASE! I would love to see a history of each time they "opened" or read my email. Location would be nice too.

Nik Schultz: We do not offer location tracking for a specific reason: we think this just cannot be offered to users with a reasonable error margin. Technically, the way this works is by tracking the IP address of requests to the invisible images used to track reads in your emails. Using IP address to infer location by itself is pretty reliable and massively used in the industry. However, when it comes to image requests in emails, there is one important gotcha: webmail clients, such as Gmail (which has more than 20% market share), use web proxies to request images in emails. So the IP address that can be used to track these reads are not the user’s, but Google’s proxy’s. Thus, all email reads from Gmail users would be tracked as Mountain View, California.
Hope this was clear enough. Let me know if this was too technical or if you think I’m missing something. I’d sure be glad to learn there actually is a reliable way to track user location from image trackers in emails.

Philippe Lehoux: Thank you Philippe! Yes, makes complete sense. For me is more of a "fun" feature to see location. But more of a REALLY WANT feature would be to see each date/time the email is opened and not just "opened for the 5th time". :-) Still love what I get now though.
